100705 | GERMANY. Perinatal medicine cast bronze Medal. Issued circa 1965 for members of the Society of Perinatal Medicine of the German Democratic Republic (DDR) (79mm, 186.92 g, 6h).

 

Newborn infant being handed over from one pair of hands to another / HONORIS / CAUSA / GESELLSCHAFT / FÜR PERINATALE / MEDIZIN DER / DDR in six lines. Edge: Plain.

 

Choice About Uncirculated. Virtually as cast; pleasing brown surfaces with lighter highlights. A rather interesting subject for medallic art.

 

Issued while East Germany was still under the 'Iron Curtain,' this medal was cast for the Society of Perinatal Medicine, a branch which deals with the time period immediately leading upon to and immediately following birth.
