101957  |  GERMANY & FRANCE. "Productive Pledges" bronze Medal. Issued 1923. Satirizing the French exploitation of the Germans following WWI (50mm, 43.02 g, 12h).

PRODUKTIVE PFÄNDER / 11.JAN.1923, anthropomorphic representation of a French soldier, with the head and tail of the French cock, screwing vise downward, with German soldier caught in between / Poincare's statement regarding the occupation of the Ruhr: ES HANDELT / SICH NICHT DARUM / DEUTSCHLAND ZU / RUINIEREN. DAS / WOLLEN WIR / NICHT! ("This is not a question of ruining Germany. We do not want that!") in six lines; large question mark over the statement. Edge: Very minor bruise, otherwise plain.

Choice About Uncirculated. Olive-brown surfaces, with just a hint of light rub on the high points.

This medal pokes fun at the idea of the Belgo-French occupation of the Ruhr following defaults on reparations over World War I. The occupation plunged Weimar Germany into deeper inflation and chaos, with the obverse of this medal capturing German sentiments at the time.
