FRIEDRICH SILCHER, bust facing slightly right within laurel wreath / 14. DEUTCHES SÄNGER–BUNDES / –STUTTGART–, stylized S (logo of the Sängerbund); lines of music above, 19 - 56 across field.     Niggl 3718. Choice About Uncirculated. Warm bronze surfaces, a few scattered marks; with clasp and chord.

     

    An important folksong collector and composer, Friedrich Silcher (1789-1860) was born in Schnait in the German Duchy of Württemberg. He served as musical director at the University of Tübingen and arranged numerous folk songs popular not only in Germany, but internationally as well.
