Skull facing slightly right above horizontal bone / S - E, St. Stephen kneeling left, raising hand and holding basket filled with stones; martyr's palm frond behind to left. Edge: Plain.

 

Van Hende 591; Feuardent 7293. Very fine. Pleasing chocolate brown surfaces, some scattered punch marks. Very rare.

 

More commonly encountered versions of this méreau feature a 3 or 4 (representing a value) in place of the skull and crossbones.
