BHM 2367; Taylor 1a. Gem Mint State. Exceedingly mirrored and prooflike surfaces, with some frosting to the high relief devices; a few light marks in the fields are noted by do not detract from its brilliance. Includes old collector's ticket.
Reminiscent of Wiener's series of Cathedral medals, J. Davis produced some attractive architectural types for various English houses of worship, paralleling the series. Among other things, the cathedral at Canterbury contains monuments to Edward (the Black Prince), Henry IV, and the shrine of Thomas à Becket (St. Thomas of Canterbury).
