Alexander SOM-2.1. Choice Mint State. Pleasing light red-brown surfaces, with some underlying brilliance. An exceptionally popular and nearly flawless type from early in the series.

The second issue of the Society of Medalists (founded in 1928, and active from 1930-1995), this medal serves as one of the more collectible works of the much celebrated medalist, Paul Manship. Its design triggered considerable uproar in a country still officially enforcing Prohibition, as the mischievous artist no doubt understood and satirized.
