100995 | FRANCE. Railroad silver Jeton. Issued circa 1875. The chemins de fer de Picardie et de Flandres (37mm, 20.11 g, 12h). By Massonnet in Paris.

Steam engine left; factory in background; wheels, hammer and anvil, and gear in exergue / CHEMINS DE FER DE PICARDIE ET DE FLANDRES, PF monogram within wreath. Edge: Plain.

Gem Mint State. Highly mirrored surfaces with a light frosting to the devices; razor sharp strike with some charming peripheral toning. Quite scarce and a rather interesting locomotive type.

The Compagnie des chemins de fer de Picardie et de Flandres was established in 1868 as a corollary to the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord, which had been involved in railways since 1845. The former existed only for a short period of time, as it was merged with the latter in 1885, therefore placing the time of this jeton somewhere between 1868 and 1885.
