The original cathedral at Hamburg was begun in the late 12th century, with rebuilding in the 14th-15th centuries. In 1842, a great fire swept through Hamburg and consumed the cathedral, among other edifices. This medal marks the rebuilding and ultimate reopening of the cathedral following the immolation.
