R. H. PRINCE ALBERT / AS CHANCELLOR / OF THE UNIVERSITY / JULY 1847 in nine lines; crown above; all within wreath. Edge: Plain.

     

    Cf. BHM 2256/2260 (for obv./rev.). Gem Mint State. Glossy chocolate brown surfaces, with some radiating luster. Rare.

     

    H. R. H. Prince Albert was installed as Chancellor of Cambridge University on 6 July 1847, receiving an ode specifically written for him by William Wordsworth, the Poet Laureate. Following the festivities, he and Victoria visited the Fitzwilliam Museum.
