Geography standing left, placing laurel wreath upon Commerce, holding caduceus; in background, emblems of commerce and industry, such as globe, tun, gear, anvil, lighthouse, and ship / SOCIÉTÉ DE GÉOGRAPHIE COMMERCIALE DE PARIS, central medallion reading MÉDAILLE DE LA SOCIÉTE / ÉCOLE DES / PONTS ET CHAUSSÉES / PORTS DE FRANCE / C. L. H. HUGUENIN / 1899; around, palm and olive branch along with Fama, holding trumpet and wreath. Edge: Loop and wreath-shaped ring attached at top; otherwise plain.
Gem Mint State. Steely gray surfaces with some darker toning near the peripheries. Compare to a similar example in gilt silver—awarded in 1902—in Elsen 105 (12 June 2010), lot 1334, which realized a hammer of €380 (plus buyer's fee).
A recipient of the légion d'honneur (legion of honor) in 1886 after being named by the minister of public works, Camille-Léon-Hippolyte Huguenin worked with the School of Bridges and Roads, serving as chief of the photographic department of the school.
