101357 | AUSTRIA. Wien (Vienna). Antifascist Exhibition bronze Award Medal. Issued 1946 for valuable work done on behalf of the expo (70mm, 106.75 g, 12h). By A. Hofmann.
+ NIEMALS VERGESSEN + / ANTIFASCHISTISCHE AUSSTELLUNG WIEN MCMXLVI, nude male prisoner on his knees left, raising arms in protest and caged within barbed wire cell / FÜR WERTVOLLE MITARBEIT / AN DER AUSSTELLUNG / DER BÜRGERMEISTER / DER STADT WIEN in four lines. Edge: Plain.
Choice Mint State. Light brown surfaces, with a great matte nature; a few lightly scattered marks prevent a more elite designation. A very rare offering from this post-war exhibition condemning fascism.
Following the end of World War II, the ravages brought about by Hitler's Nazism in Germany and Mussolini's Fascism in Italy were at the forefront of everyone's mind in Europe. This exhibition was held in order to remember and reflect upon that which had transpired and, in the words mentioned throughout the expo and on this medal, niemals vergessen (never forget!).
