A series of battles in the latter part of 1916, the Romanian Campaign saw the Central Powers enter and ultimately conquer Romania's capital city of București (Bucharest). As the Romanian forces retreated, they became entrenched with those from allied Russia as they steadfastly attempted to hold on to their territory. Though the campaign into Romania was successful for the German army, the protracted concern which it caused would later prove costly in their attempt to hold their positions on other fronts.
