One of the most well known of the fairy tales as a result of the 1937 Disney movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was published by the Brothers Grimm in their 1812 compilation of tales. Originally known in the High German as Schneeweißchen, it tells the story of a beautiful young maiden repeatedly escaping the plot of her evil stepmother, jealous of Snow White's ever-increasing beauty—a concept continually revealed to the former by means of her magic mirror. During her attempts to avoid the exploits of her stepmother, Snow White stumbles across the home of seven dwarves who aid in protecting her. Nevertheless, she is discovered by her stepmother who tricks her into consuming a poison apple. On account of the poison, Snow White is rendered unconscious, with the dwarves unable to revive her. After they leave her resting in a glass casket, she is discovered by a prince under whose care the piece of apple becomes dislodged, ultimately causing her revival. When she awakens, she falls in love with her rescuer, and agrees to marry him. After the prince learns of the numerous attempts upon the life of his bride-to-be by her stepmother, he orders the latter to dance in scorching hot slippers made of iron until she drops to her death.
