    101815  |  FRANCE. "l'Archéologie" bronze Award Plaque. Issued circa 1902 [unawarded] (50mm x 70mm, 89.60 g, 12h). By S.-É. Vernier at the Paris Mint.

     

    ARCHEO / LOGIE, nude female kneeling left, holding pickaxe and unearthed kylix; shovel and basket with other discoveries in background to left; in foreground, facing bust and coins emerging from the dirt / Mostly blank field, with a slightly recessed area in the lower half revealing Doric column between facing bust of Athena with triple-crested Attic helmet and Pharonic bust left. Edge: «cornucopia» BRONZE.

     

    MdP III, p. 388. Choice Mint State. Light brown surfaces, with some pleasing highlights and a warming matte quality. Quite scarce this pleasing.
