300e ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA PACIFICATION DE GAND 1576 1876, supposed heretics burning at the stake while monks fill their money chest with coins—some from bags, others pouring forth from the base of the pyre / LA SAINTE INQUISITION / UNE PAGE / DE L'HISTOIRE / SOUS LE JOUG / ESPAGNOL / AU XVIe SIECLE (the holy inquisition: a page of history under the Spanish yoke) in six lines. Mint State details. Exceptionally brilliant and prooflike, though some minor planchet waviness and irregularities are noted. An interesting and unusual satirical piece, and one of the few that mentions the famous Spanish Inquisition numismatically.
