Considered one of the more adept naval commanders of the 19th century, Wilhelm von Tegetthoff rose greatly within the Austrian ranks following his adept leadership in the Austro-Prussian War in 1866. Though Austria would ultimately lose to a Prussian-Italian alliance, Tegetthoff's contributions were not overlooked, and he was widely celebrated among the ruling elites.
