Two heavily garnished oval medallions containing heads of Louis-Philippe, laureate, and Marie-Amélie facing one another; above, facing seminude figure of Victory, head slightly left, placing laurel wreath upon each medallion; below, coat-of-arms with two putti supporting it and crown / Four medallions, two oval and two square, containing head left of Adelaide (sister of the king), jugate heads right of Prince Ferdinand Philippe and Princess Louise (son and daughter of the king), jugate heads right of Prince François, Princess Marie, and Prince Henri (sons and daughter of the king), and jugate heads left of Prince Louis, Princess Clémentine, and Prince Antoine (sons and daughter of the king); nude genius between the medallions, two seminude female Victories above, two seminude male winged merfolk below. Edge: «cornucopia» BRONZE.
Cf. Collignon 1064 (for original). Mint State. Brown-bronze surfaces, with a lighter nature on the higher points. A large and very impressively engraved medal.
Reminiscent of the "Blessings of Heaven" taler from Ludwig I of Bayern and the "Family Rouble" from Nikolai I of Russia, this impressive tour de force from Barre presents the entirety of the family of Louis-Philippe, all within heavily embellished garnishings and neoclassical motifs. A new aspect is spotted on seemingly every glance.
