Eagle, with head right and wings uplifted, standing left upon the globe from which serpents rise and hiss / ZVR / ERINNERVNG / AN / GROSSEZEIT / 1914•1916 (in commemoration of the heady times) in five lines. Edge: Somewhat rough and uneven as made.

 

Klose –; Art of Devastation –; cf. Erlanger 888 (for the same obverse in a smaller module and with a different reverse for the German National Museum). Mint State. Light gray surfaces with high relief. A highly tactile, hefty, and rare medal from the middle period of the war.
