102210  |  GERMANY. Friedrich II, Grand Duke of Baden silver Medal. Issued 1915 (33mm, 18.4) 12h). By F. König for L. C. Lauer in Nürnberg.

FRIEDRICH II GROSSHERZOG v. BADEN, bust right / STARKE WEHR / STELLT BADENS HEER, crowned coat-of-arms over swords crossed in saltire; all within oak wreath. Edge: SILBER 990.

Zetzmann 2093. PCGS SP-65. Highly brilliant and prooflike fields, with some delightful iridescence nearer the peripheries; for completeness, a very subtle strike-through from something on the die is noted on the Grand Duke's cheek, easily mistaken as the contours of his cheekbone; as such, it can easily be discounted, as was the case by PCGS. The finer of just two seen there for the type.

Friedrich served as the final Grand Duke of Baden, ascending to the throne upon the death of his father in 1907. Following the conclusion of World War I and the dissolution of the German Empire, the Grand Duchy ceased to exist.
