Klose 4.2. Essentially as made, deep charcoal surfaces, with some hints of rub upon the high points.

 

Produced later on into the Great War, when the initial euphoria of a quick victory had faded into the disillusionment of a long, drawn-out affair, this work attempts to regain lost morale through a reminder that, from the German perspective, the war was one in the same with that which was just. With Germany on the side of the "truth," her enemies, represented here as the clutched serpent, were on the side of the "lies."
