102383  |  UNITED STATES & BELGIUM. Tribute to President Wilson cast bronze Wall Plaque. Issued circa 1919 (222mm [8-3/4"]). By J. Lambert.

HOMMAGE A L'AMÉRIQUE LA BELGIQUE RECONNAISSANTE, bust of Woodrow Wilson facing slightly left; 1914 - 1915 across field. The reverse is somewhat hollowed out, with two screw holes on the left and right for wall mounting.

Essentially as Made. Deep brown surfaces, with some lighter hues on the higher points. Incredibly rare and extremely impressive, being both intricate in its portraiture and artistry, and immensely hefty. No other such examples have been located.

President of the United States during World War I, Woodrow Wilson initially sought neutrality in Europe's growing conflict. However, the hope for that began to fade, with evidence of the destruction within countries such as Belgium leaving Wilson little choice. By the time that the Lusitania was sunk, the die had essentially been cast. This exceptionally large wall plaque is indeed extremely rare, and offers a very well executed portrait of Wilson.
