Allegorical representation of the Riksbank seated facing on throne, holding caduceus (indicating commerce) and resting hand upon money box // Decorative cartouche containing HINC / ROBUR / ET / SECURITAS in four lines; crossed cornucopias and fruits around; below, plinth inscribed SVERIGES / RIKSBANK / TILL MINNE AF / TVÅHUNDRAFEMTIO / ÅRS VERKSAMHET in five lines. Edge: SILVER 1918.
Ehrensvärd 177. Mintage: An unlisted amount in gold and silver, though believed to be a few hundred. Choice Mint State. Deep gunmetal gray toning, with a delightful matte nature. A rare and interesting banking-related issue. Includes part of original roundelle of issue, though somewhat torn.
Established in 1668, the Riksbank (the bank of the kingdom) stands as the oldest central bank in the world, and the fourth oldest bank overall—behind only the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in Firenze (Florence, Italy), Berenberg Bank (in Hamburg, Germany), and Child & Co. (in London, England).
