102649  |  NETHERLANDS. "Willy the Naughty Cat" cast bronze Medal. Issued 1984. Vereniging voor Penningkunst (Association for Medallic Art) series (60mm, 198.57 g, 12h). By C. Klein.

Stylized cat curled right around a ball // "Willy / the naughty / Cat" arranged variously in three lines; scattered paw prints around. Edge: Plain.

Penning 1984-1; De Beeldenaar vol. 9, July/August 1985, pp. 119-122 ("Willy the naughty cat" and other medals by Carla Klein by A. J. de Koning); The Medal –. Essentially as made. Deep brown-bronze surfaces, with some lighter, dusty hints of cobalt accenting the devices. The pawprints have the appearance of a cat leaving its dusty prints atop an otherwise clean surface.

The concept for this medal originated from Klein's stay in the United States, for which reason she chose to ascribe the reverse legend in English rather than Dutch. In the house at which Klein stayed, there was a cat named Willy that was popular with the family, with him described as an "intelligent, inspiring, and sometimes mischievous animal."
