Ludwig III served as the final king of Bavaria, reigning from 1913 until the dissolution of the German Empire following World War I. While his position among the Bavarians became frayed by the end, it did not prevent him from a monumental celebration for him and his wife, Marie Therese, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary on 20 February 1918. Here, Gies presents the intense pageantry, all in an extremely thick and tactile format.
