103012  |  GREAT BRITAIN. "Double Dice" cast pewter and pigment Medal. Issued 2004 (84mm x 316mm x 18mm, 193 g). By Patrick Hughes for the British Art Medal Society, and cast by A. E. Williams.

The Medal 45, p. 108; Silich I, 189. As Made. Lustrous surfaces, with great relief. Green felt backing applied to reverse. Quite rare, with a total output of just 17 pieces. A great contemporary sculptural issue with an element of abstraction.

In The Medal 45 (Autumn 2004), the writeup for this medal mentions that "Patrick Hughes was born in 1939. His first solo show was at the Portal Gallery, London, in 1961, and since 1970 he has been showing with Angela Flowers Gallery. His work is in the collections of the Tate Gallery, the Arts Council, the British Council, and Glasgow Museum of Modern Art. He has written on paradoxes, puns and oxymorons. Patrick Hughes lives in Shoreditch, London. About his BAMS medal, Double Dice, the artist writes: 'I have worked with perspective backwards for forty years. Dice roll by chance - these dice may seem real, may reverse or come forward. It depends on your point of view.'"
