LE DRAPEAU (the flag), tattered flag billowing right; 14 / JUILLET 1917 in two lines below // Blank, with a rather extensive die crack observed. Edge: Plain.

 

Cf. Vitry 59 (70mm); The Art of Devastation –; Frankenhuis –; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco –. Essentially as Cast. Tan-brown surfaces. Being somewhat smaller in size than the type referenced in Vitry, this example is very rare among the World War I series designed by Roche.
