Ex David Nicholas Silich Collection, Part II.

A brief workup in the Autumn 1991 issue of The Medal offers this about the artist and his contribution to BAMS: "...the Swedish sculptor and medallist Berndt Helleberg was born in 1920 and studied in Stockholm and Paris. He lived for four years in southern Europe, Liberia, and Senegal before returning to his home country. He has received many commissions both in Sweden and abroad, as for example the monumental Day and Night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is nowadays one of Sweden's most distinguished sculptors. As a medallist he has won an international reputation. A regular contributor to FIDEM exhibitions, he was for many years the Swedish delegate to FIDEM. His medal is a heart-felt plea for clean air, clear earth and clean water." Though the words about this particular design are very brief, they capture what is in essence a very simple message: protect our only planet—a message that, in the some 35 years since this medal was created, has sadly fallen on so many deaf and willfully ignorant ears.
