Klose 11.23. Choice About Uncirculated. Deep brown surfaces, with just a hint of rub upon the high points accounting for a contrasting nature. No real wear at all within the recesses. Very rare.

 

Presenting a swashbuckling nature to the soldier, this medal from 1915 (despite its references to the year before and after) still offers a seemingly optimistic outlook toward Bavaria's (and Germany's) fortunes in the war. The soldier appears confident, even eager, about the prospects of impending battle. Only in successive years would the grim reality of the war's true toll begin to grind its way into the German psyche as well as upon her medallic art.
