Female triformis, with central figure wearing helmet and holding shield and grain ears, the left figure with hand set upon column, and the right figure veiled and holding lamp // Blank. Edge: Plain.

 

Mint State. Gunmetal gray in hue, with some alluring brilliance. Quite scarce and wonderfully sculpted.

Born in 1893 in Portbou, a Catalonian town on the border with France, Frederic Marès i Deulovol came to Barcelona with his family when he was ten. He got his start under the Art Nouveau sculptor Eusebi Arnau, and had a prolific career as a sculptor and later, a teacher, eventually serving as the director of the School of Fine Arts and the School of Arts and Crafts in Barcelona, as well as the president of the Jordi Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts.
