103265  |  ITALY. Vatican City. Pope Paulus VI oval silver Medal. Issued Year XII (1974). Commemorating the Pentecost and preparations for the impending Holy Year (34mm x 47mm, 40.36 g, 12h). By Amerigo Tot for Emilio Senesi in Milano.

+ PAVLVS + VI + PONT + MAX + + ANNO + XII +, bust left, wearing tiara and mantum // The feast of Pentecost: the twelve apostles and the Madonna seated around a table in a banquet hall; curtains billow in the windows above, with the Holy Spirit descending unto them. Edge: Some scattered discoloration, but plain otherwise.

Rinaldi 169; De Luca 346; Modesti 442. Mint State. Lighter gunmetal gray toning, with some hints of cobalt in a few areas.

Pentecost represents the 50th day of Easter, representing the feast in which the apostles of Christ, along with the Madonna, received the Holy Spirit while in Jerusalem during the Feast of Weeks. This medal features a more intriguing and unorthodox shape, being oval and playing upon the tall nature of the pope's miter on the obverse and the stretched multi-story banquet scene on the reverse.
