    103321  |  FRANCE. Henri IV bronze Medal. Issued circa late 18th/early 19th century after a 1602 original by Philippe Danfrie. The birth of the dauphin [future Louis XIII] (56mm, 64.69 g, 12h). Paris mint.

     

    HENRICVS • IIII • D • G • FRANCORVM • ET • NAVA • REX, laureate, armored, and mantled bust right, with leonine shoulder plate // • ORITVR • ET • LACTE • VIRESCIT (he is born and nourished by milk), Marie de' Medici (wife of Henri IV & mother of Louis XIII) standing slightly right as Juno, squeezing milk from her breast to nourish the lily of France in urn to middle; to left, peacock standing facing, head right; to far right, Opis reclining left, resting elbow upon cornucopia; radiant personification of sun above; garlanded laurel branch and palm frond in exergue. Edge: Plain.
