MAco 1935-022. Choice Mint State. Pale tan-brown surface, with a pleasing matte nature. An extremely rare and intriguing art medal from a popular medalist, and a type that seemingly eludes all references consulted outside of the Medallic Art Company's own archives.

The American Crayon Company officially formed in 1890 from the merger of several companies formed prior—the oldest of which dated to 1835. As such, the firm in 1935 celebrated its centennial, at least with respect to the history which it had absorbed. Based in Sandusky, Ohio, the company referred to their product as the "old faithful" crayons, utilizing a depiction of the famous geyser as their logo. As such, the artist of this medal, Jonathan Marmaduke Swanson, presented a stylized depiction of Old Faithful upon the medal's reverse, all while the obverse design, likely of a father-and-son, alludes the increased presence of crayons among the lives of America's youth through the colorful artistry that they would create.
