103447 | GREAT BRITAIN & SPAIN. Lt Gen Sir Thomas Picton bronze Medal. Dated 1812, though issued 1820 for Mudie's "National Series": The Capture of Badajoz (40mm, 38.54 g, 12h). By Thomas Webb & George Mills.
LIEUT. GEN. SIR T. PICTON K. B., uniformed bust facing slightly left // Picton, holding flag and broken sword, standing left on bombarded rampart; BADAJOZ APRḶ VI/ MDCCCXII in two lines in exergue. Edge: Plain.

James Mudie's provided text for his "National Series" mentions the following regarding this particular medal and its subject, Sir Thomas Picton: "Badajoz was taken by storm, and particularly by the bravery and skill of General Picton, who escalated and captured its castle, as is here described, by his planting the British standard on the walls, at the moment of his arrival on them." A few years later, Picton "...fell gloriously at the battle of Waterloo, while leading his men to one of the most decisive charges against the enemy that was made during that arduous day. His loss was sincerely deplored by his country, by his friends, by his brave soldiers, and by none more than by the illustrious chief with whom he had shared the dangers and the honours of many a hard-fought field."
