    • CAISSE D'EPARGNE ET DE PRÉVOYANCE DE LYON • / FONDÉE EN 1822, civic coat-of-arms of Lyon / VADE AD FORMICAM (go to the ant), ant within grain wreath. Edge: «hand» ARGENT.

Choice Mint State. Mostly argent and lustrous, with some deeper iridescence around the devices and near the peripheries.

This jeton utilizes the Latin of a passage adapted from Proverbs 6:6, which roughly translates to "...go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!" A similar message was later recounted on an issue of the Society of Medalists, previously sold here.
